The Game originated in 2006 on the CW television network as a spinoff of the UPN/CW television series, Girlfriends. Melanie Barnett (Tia Mowry), cousin of Joan Clayton (Tracee Ellis Ross) on Girlfriends, foregoes Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to follow her boyfriend, Derwin Davis (Pooch Hall), to San Diego where he plays for the fictional Sabres football team. The series follows the lives of Melanie, Derwin and their friends who are associated with the Sabres. After 3 seasons on CW, The Game was cancelled, but was brought back to life in 2011 on BET following fan support. The series continues to air on BET.
